STAMFORD — Reality show host Steve Wilkos made a brief appearance at the Stamford courthouse to put in his application for a court diversionary program that could erase a drunk driving charge that he picked up in Darien in January.Wilkos, 53, swore to Judge Richard Comerford that he has not participated in the Alcohol Education Program in the past 10 years, but left the rest of the talking to his attorney Eugene Riccio.Wilkos, who lives in Darien, is scheduled to return to the courthouse on April 16, when a decision is expected to be made on whether or not he will be allowed into the program. Wilkos and his attorney declined comment as he left the courthouse.If allowed to participate in the program, Wilkos will be evaluated by the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

Wilkos may be assigned to a 10-week educational program or a 15-week program or a treatment program. He may also be required to participate on a panel with drunk driving victims.If successfully completed, the charges against Wilkos would be dismissed.The charges against Wilkos came after he flipped his Lexus SUV on West Avenue, near Turnabout Lane in Darien on Jan. 21.With his car resting on the passenger side of the vehicle, the windshield had to be removed and Wilkos was pulled out, his arrest affidavit said. The first officer on the scene said he could smell alcohol coming from Wilkos, who “was unable to answer any other questions.”.
